Teacher Micro-Grants

Have an amazing making-themed lesson plan that you want to share with the rest of the maker-community? The STEAM Discovery Lab is now accepting applications for $50 micro-grants in exchange for your ideas!
We are looking for innovative lesson plans that other teachers can use to do making projects with their students. Activities for all grade levels and subject areas are welcome, and winning activities will be featured on the STEAM Discovery Lab website. Check out our micro-grant example application below for an example of what we're looking for! Submissions do not need to follow the format below, that is just one example of a content format, but we are excited to see how you chose to present your own ideas.

Apply for a STEAM Discovery Lab Micro-Grant!
Micro-grant winners will be shipped $50 worth of classroom making materials of their choosing.

Applications will be judged based on the following criteria:
  1. Must incorporate some form of hands-on, minds-on making.  This means that students should have  created something in the physical or virtual world by the end of the activity. Found materials, robotics kits, coding, digital fabrication, and other forms of making are all welcome.
  2. Originality of the making-lesson. We are looking for ideas that haven't been done before and aren't already readily available online. Leveraging ideas from other sources is welcome, but make sure you put your own spin on it!
  3. Thoroughness of write-up. Are there links to the necessary materials? Example code files? A demo video of you doing the activity with your students? We are excited to see any resources you can provide to help fellow educators incorporate your ideas in their classroom.

We are NOT looking for:
  1. Existing curriculum content.
  2. Platform specific tutorials.

Timeline:
  •  July 16th: Application period begins
  • August 6th: Application period ends
  • August 8th: Micro-grant winners announced
  • September 1st: Micro-grant winner's materials will be shipped!

Eligibility:
Any maker-educator with an exciting new idea is welcome to apply. You do not need to teach in a traditional school - librarians, makerspace workers/coordinators, camp counselors and directors, and other informal maker-educators are welcome to apply!
