Ideal Library

Subjects: Literacy  |  Grades: 3 to 8  |  Duration: 1 hours  |  Level: Beginner

Libraries are wonderful places! Besides books, they often contain other materials and facilities. Have the students imagine what the ideal library would look like to them and then have them construct a model.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Students will create their ideal library
  2. ​Students will draw a blueprint of their library and write an explanation of its features

MATERIALS

​Necessary
  • Large sheets of cardboard or other stiff material for platforms
  • Craft materials

Optional
  • Laser cutter, 3D printer, vinyl cutter, or other tools for fabrication

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Have students, working in groups, discuss what elements their ideal library would contain and sketch a blueprint for their design.
  2. Give the students time to construct their libraries.
  3. Once their memorial is complete, have them write a brief description, explaining how their library would benefit their community and highlighting its special features. ​
