Humpty-dumpty Challenge

Picture
Picture
Lesson Objectives:
  1. Students will prototype and build a contraption to protect an egg while falling.

Materials:
  • Craft materials
  • Eggs
  • Step stool
  • Disposable table cloth

Let's Get Started!

Have the students work in groups of 3-4, and begin by brainstorming 2-3 design concepts on how they can protect their egg. With the craft materials available have the students construct a container which will hold an egg and protect it from being dropped. At the end of the class period have the teacher stand on a step stool over a disposable table cloth, and test out each each device with an egg inside.

For a different take on the same activity, have the students design parachutes to save Humpty-Dumpty and make it into a lesson and drag.
