Let's Get Started!

Have students work in groups of 4-5. Each group should be given a plastic storage bin. As a class go through the concepts of conduction and insulation,  and have the students research what materials work well as insulators. With the plastic storage bins and the craft materials available have the students design a homemade freezer. Before they begin have each group brainstorm 2-3 ideas on the worksheet first. After all the groups have designed their freezers, place several pieces of ice into each container. At the end of the school day have the students observe how well the freezers maintained the ice.
