Let's Get Started!

There are many versions of the Chinese zodiac race, where the animals race to be first across the river, and thus, first in the line-up of animals in the zodiac. Read one of the versions of the tale to the students. Have them, working alone or in groups, choose one of the animals to help by creating a device to help the animal win the race. Give the students time to construct their device. Once it is complete, have them describe and sketch their solution.
